Research Activities at Aravind Medical Research Foundation is diversified from epidemiology, clinical research and clinical genetics to basic research and translational research. The focus of basic research is on Genetics, Immunology, Microbiology, Cell Biology, Biochemistry and Molecular Biology of eye diseases. Aravind Eye Hospital being recognized as one of the world's most comprehensive promotive centre of eye care handles the largest patient volume in the world. Aravind Eye Hospital with Technology Information, Forecasting and Assessment Council (TIFAC) Department of Science and Technology, Government of India has created TIFAC-CORE (Centre of Relevance and Excellence) which move towards better management of diabetic retinopathy. This TIFAC-CORE is mandated to develop into an international centre of excellence in research, training and develop changes in treatment patterns to prevent blindness due to diabetic retinopathy. With recent technical advances, we are entering an exciting era in the field of Molecular Genetics on Ophthalmology especially candidate gene identification, gene expression and gene testing. The present approach is to look at genes with a holistic view, we are moving to Genomics and Proteomics.
      These fields have emerged, which are not only ruling the roost but also giving new insights into holistic perspectives of the genetics of eye diseases and eye care. This TIFAC CORE short term course provide an advanced molecular biology, molecular ophthalmic genetics techniques and new knowledge in the area of human Genetics, disease prevention and genetic counseling.
