Aravind Eye Clinic at Melur
A Community Eye Clinic was established in Melur, a town 30 kilometres from Madurai, that previously had no eye care services. Originally estimated to draw 30 patients each day, the clinic in the first month of its operations handled 50–70 patients on a daily basis and is now developing plans to further increase this number.
Aravind Eye Clinic at Tirumangalam
Tirumangalam which is about 20 kms from Madurai does not have any eye care facility. For quite sometime Aravind Eye Care System has been considering starting a community centre there. After a lot of planning and organising this dream was realised on 15th september when the second community centre of Aravind Eye Hospital, Madurai was inaugurated at Tirumangalam.
Dr. G. Venkataswamy inaugurated the community centre which will cater to a population of nearly 3 lakhs.
