Rotary Aravind International Eye Bank - Lights up the Sightless lives
The Rotary Aravind International Eye Bank (RAIEB) is a community organization dedicated to the cause of lighting up the sightless eyes. It has been registered under the Tamilnadu Society Registration Act 1975 (Register Number: M(N) 2001/087 Date 6.8.2001.

The Executive Board consists of the following members:

President : Dr.P.Namperumalsamy
Vice President : Mr.M.N.Nayagam
Secretary : Dr.M.Srinivasan

The Society is formed with the objective of providing quality corneal tissues to the needy patients irrespective of the caste, creed and religion and also to enhance the level of awareness about eye donations to the General public, Hospitals and Voluntary organizations.

The eye bank is doing various awareness programmes among general public like students, self help groups(SHG) and voluntary organizations in order to increase awareness about eye donation and to motivate people to donate eyes after death.

You also can contribute your might in a number of ways:
To start with, you can register your name for eye donation. You can act as an “Eye Donation Ambassador” to motivate others for eye donation.

You may also offer financial support towards finding a solution to the problem of corneal blindness. It costs approximately Rs.5000 – 10,000 to perform a corneal transplant surgery and Rs.2000 to process each donated eye and bring light to a life. Every month Rs.17, 000 (US $. 378) is spent for running the eye bank, training doctors, technicians, counselors, members of Lions and other NGO’s and for promotional activities apart from institutional support.(Aravind).

Any financial contributions towards RAIEB will be used to:
  • Bring light to the sightless poor and underprivileged
  • Promote awareness about eye donation
  • Train eye bank technicians and corneal surgeons across developing countries.

Donations made in favour of RAIEB will get income tax exemption under the Section 80G of the Income Tax Act, 1961.

Remember, when you pledge to donate your eyes or motivate another person for the same, you are helping to bring light to the lives of two visually challenged people thereby providing them a better life.
