WORKSHOP ON RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
LAICO, October 2-5, 2008
This basic level workshop was designed to enhance the ‘research culture’ among health care service providers and structured so as to facilitate the participants to get oriented to both research methodology and statistical methods. This included didactic lectures, problem solving sessions, hands-on training, group work and participants’ presentations. The main objectives of the workshop were to- Understand the relevance of clinical and operational research, identify a research question - Design and conduct a study on their own; acquire better understanding of various sampling procedures and sample size calculation - Manage databases, perform appropriate statistical analysis and meaningfully interpret the findings. A total of 32 participants attended the workshop on Research Methodology. Feedback: Congratulations on the amazing workshop that was conducted at LAICO from the 2-5 October on Research Methodology. I had the honor and privilege to attend it as you may recollect. It was very well planned and the execution was very good as well. Every session had a lot of implications and answered a lot of burning questions in my mind. The faculty was of the highest order as well, they made every session very interactive. I certainly feel enriched and more capable now. I am confident of designing and even conducting a study now. I will hopefully be able to convert the innumerable ideas into articles in peer reviewed journals. - Sengupta, DNB resident, AEH, Puducherry Thank you for a well planned and executed workshop on Research Methodology which all of us thoroughly enjoyed and benefitted. Although we can make no tall claims that we have mastered the basic concepts in research methods, the sessions did introduce us to most concepts in Research Practice, which we could slowly build upon. The faculty you had chosen were all excellent, knew our limitations, and restricted their teaching to convey the most essential basics. The hand out you have chosen were very appropriate and I congratulate for your efforts and the time you have spent to compile them. It would be nice, if you could, on a continued basis take classes for doctors, postgraduates and management fellows on the basic concepts governing understanding of Biostatistics at periodic intervals. (We used to have such classes by LAICO faculty years ago). Each session, you could cover concepts like ROC, survival analysis, ANOVA, student’s test, etc. I have enclosed some topics from popular journals which you may find useful to offer as handouts in the forthcoming workshops. - Dr R Krishnadas, Chief Medical Officer, Madurai The application of statistics in eye care research and writing a scientific journal/publishing an article are the most important things I learnt during the course. The course should be spread over a period of 1 week to make it more application oriented. - Anonymous |
