Dear Colleague

There is a demand for efficient and realistic training in medical education. Surgeons should gain their initial surgical experience without implying undue risks to patients. In this computer age, virtual reality is set to become a new way of training with an exceptional degree of reality. Pilots have been using simulators for years. In flight simulators a pilot learns to fly and handle critical situations without ever endangering passengers. If pilots were trained the way surgeons are trained, probably there would not be a single plane in the sky.
Today medical simulators are gaining importance. There are several simulators already used in teaching and training of abdominal surgery. Now the advantages of virtual reality have been brought to ophthalmology. VR Magic GmbH, Germany has come out with EYESI (ophthalmic simulator) for computerised vitreoretinal training. Vitreo Retinal surgery is a complex and difficult surgery to master. It has a long learning curve and the learning process is limited by the number of cases available in teaching hospitals. Hands-on training has obvious advantages over assisting & observing during surgery.Wet lab training is realistic only to a certain extent. The handling of complications can hardly be trained. Vitreoretinal surgical training has reached a new dimension.
With EYESI you can see what you see during surgery. You can manipulate instruments just like in real surgery. It lets you experience intraocular surgery outside the operating room. Come and experience this new training dimension.
On the eve of this launch, we are also happy to announce that we are starting Ophthalmic Brachytherapy using Iodine 1125 seeds for intraocular tumors like choroidal melanomas and retinoblastomas.
I invite you to this CME on 23 guage vitrectomy, AMD management and ophthalmic brachytherapy.

With kind regards
Dr. V. Narendran
