Training at National Eye Institute, USA
Ms. B. Suganthalakshmi, Senior Research Fellow, Department of Genetics, Aravind Medical Research Foundation has been awarded the pre doctoral fellowship in the NIH visiting program under the guidance of Dr. J. Fielding Hejtmancik, Chief of Ophthalmic Genetics & Visual Function Branch, NEI, Bethesda, USA for a period of one year (1st June 2007-31st May2008). During this period she will be working on the project “Genome wide association studies on Diabetic retinopathy”.
One month training
Sankara Nethralaya, Chennai, June 20 -July 19

Ms. S. Ananthi, Microbiology Lab underwent one month summer school hands on training in molecular biology and virology techniques which was conducted by Sankara Nethralaya, Chennai.
When asked about the training programme, Ms. Ananthi said, "It was very useful in gaining knowledge about advanced molecular biological techniques like PCR (Polymerase chain reaction) and RFLP (Restriction fragment length polymorphism). In virology I was able to learn more about the maintenance of cell lines and cell culture based assays."
